Tennant Creek is situated approximately 520 kilometres north of Alice Springs on the Stuart Highway and has a population of around 3,300 people. 


The township was first settled in the 1930s after gold was discovered in the area. The town’s major industries include government services, agriculture, construction, mining and gas exploration. 


Tennant Creek is the regional centre for remote communities throughout the Barkly region which covers an area of 322,713 square kilometres and has a population for approximately 6,100 people.
