Headstone Project

In 2019 the Mob were funded through the Aboriginal Benefit Account for a Headstone project to support local Aboriginal families in the Barkly region commemorate deceased family members. The project which was initially funded over a 12 month period produced and installed over 200 headstones for Aboriginal families from Tennant Creek, Elliott, Ali Curung, Tara and Wunara.

The project was supported by the whole community and in particular the business community who provided much needed resources and advice.

In addition to  providing employment opportunities for 18 local Aboriginal people, the project also supported six local Aboriginal people to complete accredited training at Charles Darwin University in Work Health and Safety.

The project has transformed the Tennant Creek Cemetery and helped local families build meaningful memorials to commemorate deceased family members.
